On May 25, 2026, Public Health PR published an article highlighting research conducted by Sur180 Therapeutics in collaboration with Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) and the Ponce Research Institute (PRI), recently published in Biology of Reproduction, one of the most recognized peer-reviewed scientific journals in reproductive science.

The study demonstrated that blocking the CRHR1 receptor using pexacerfont, a small orally administered molecule, significantly reduced endometriosis-associated pain and cut adhesion scores in half, without altering gonadal hormones or compromising fertility.

These findings position CRHR1 as a mechanistically distinct, non-hormonal therapeutic target for endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects the quality of life of millions of women and that in many cases requires prolonged treatment to control pain and disease progression.

For Sur180 Therapeutics, this publication represents an important milestone and the result of years of research developed in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in collaboration with local scientific institutions. This advance reinforces Puerto Rico’s role in generating biomedical knowledge with the potential to impact new therapeutic strategies for complex conditions like endometriosis.
